FedEx Strengthens Commitment to Asia: Expands Sort Facility in Subic Bay

Expansion bolsters FedEx' visionary hub strategy in Asia Pacific

HONG KONG, April 3, 2002 - FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, has expanded the main sort facility of its Asia Pacific Hub in Subic Bay, Philippines, further strengthening the company's service throughout Asia.

FedEx President, Asia Pacific, David L. Cunningham Jr., said the new 140,000 sq. ft. facility effectively doubled the size of the sorting capability at the Hub, and will also include the addition of enhanced automation for even faster document sorting.

"FedEx revolutionized express delivery in Asia when we opened our Asia Pacific Hub in Subic Bay in 1995, enabling us to provide overnight delivery to 19 Asian cities and to connect Asia to our Hubs in the United States and Europe," said Mr. Cunningham.

"Our commitment to Asia is stronger than ever and this major expansion of the AsiaOne Hub demonstrates our continued efforts to strengthen our intra-Asia network."

This announcement follows the unveiling of FedEx's expanded transshipment center in Taipei, last week. The Taipei transshipment center is a vital part of FedEx's overall hub strategy in Asia.

"Subic Bay is the largest air express hub operating in Asia and it plays a pivotal role in the hub-and-spokes system that FedEx pioneered. Combined with our transshipment hub in Taiwan, FedEx is able to connect the global marketplace via an integrated, information-rich distribution network, which is what we envisioned back in 1995".

FedEx currently operates over 260 intra-Asia flights per week to express deliver heavyweight, package and document shipments.

FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp., connects areas that generate 90% of the world's gross domestic product in 24-48 hours with door-to-door and customs-cleared service. The company's unmatched air route authorities and infrastructure make it the world's largest express transportation company, providing fast, reliable and time-definite transportation of more than 3.3 million items to 211 countries each working day. FedEx employs approximately 143,500 employees and has more than 45,800 drop-off locations, 640 aircraft and 44,500 vehicles in its integrated global network.
