FedEx Express strengthens commitment to Malaysia: Launches second Klang Valley World Service Centre
New station provides Malaysian customers with convenient and reliable access to the global economy
KUALA LUMPUR, August 10, 2004 - FedEx Express (FedEx), the world's largest express transportation company, officially announced the opening of its second World Service Centre and station in the Klang Valley today, which was formally launched by YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Hj Abdul Razak, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. The new station will help deliver significant import/export improvements to FedEx customers by offering convenient, time-definite service and direct connection to Asia, Europe and America via FedEx's extensive air networks.
"The new Centre dramatically boosts our services to customers in the Klang Valley and will help facilitate Malaysia's continued growth in the global market," said David L. Cunningham Jr, President FedEx Express Asia Pacific. "FedEx continues to help drive global trade by enabling Malaysia's businesses to quickly and reliably source their goods from markets around the world, and to express deliver their shipments across the globe. With strong growth anticipated to continue in both export demand and in the domestic market, FedEx is positive about our future growth in Malaysia, and the growth of Malaysian-manufactured goods in the global market."
The station's proximity to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and easy access to major highways provides an earlier delivery and later cut-off time commitment, and was opened in direct response to customer demand, serving western areas of the Klang Valley, including Shah Alam, Puchong, Subang Jaya, Klang and Cheras.
"We created this new facility in direct response to customer demands for greater capacity, convenience and reliability," said Ms. Lily Tay, Managing Director of FedEx Express, Malaysia and Brunei.
This new station will be a critical part of the FedEx network of services and solutions as its global and intra-Asian network provide local businesses with overnight connectivity to 19 major Asian centers and to the rest of the world through its Asia Pacific hub in Subic Bay, the Philippines.
The facility, which opened for business in December 2003, includes approximately 46,000 square feet of office and warehouse space, and has the capacity to sort up to 2,500 packages per hour. The World Service Centre, provides a direct access point for customers, and is open from 8.30am to 6.00pm Mondays to Fridays, and 8.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
The opening of the new station follows the expansion of FedEx services within Malaysia's southern state of Johor, the launch of a Customs Clearance hotline in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, and illustrates FedEx's targeted investments and commitment to Malaysia.
In addition to the new facility in the Klang Valley, FedEx has a total of eight Express Centres located in Penang (2), Petaling Jaya (2), Sepang, Ipoh, Kuching and Johor. FedEx has gateway operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang, as well as at the Penang International Airport in Bayan Lepas. FedEx's state-of-the art 25,000 sq ft cargo handling facility at KLIA was opened in July 1998, with the 40,000 sq ft Penang operations at MAB Cargo Complex launched in 2001.
